  • From Paul Easton on A Pope Product Diecast Toy Guns

I have a Aussie made cap gun by Pope with 4 on one side and 3 on the other, still has a lot of silver paint on it, and works.
Can you tell me what it is worth, please.

    • From admin on A Pope Product Diecast Toy Guns

      Hi Paul

The little Aussie cap gun is probably around $30.00 maybe $50.00 on a good day and dependent on condition.

For insurance in a collection I’d value at $100 as ‘replacement value’ is always a premium, while for selling you need to allow for fees and commissions, so $40 in your pocket would be a good price.

I have bought these as low as $15 (well-loved) and as high as $40 in good condition a few years back.

The 3 & 4 numbers I think are moulding / casting identifiers, one in my display has number 2 on one side and the other side has been a bit damaged where the number is but I think it is ‘1’. These numbers would be used to assist with their quality check if a piece did not cast correctly they could check the relevant mould.

      Hope this helps.

      cheers
      Tony

  • From Leigh Eames. on Winna and Hardray Toys

Hello. My name is Leigh and I am a member of the Stratford historical society.
Someone has just given the society one of these Winna roadsters that was recently found under an old house here in town. The body of the car is complete and it still has the yellow paint in reasonable condition but we only have half of one wheel. The society members were interested it this old toy car and its possible history. Thank you for the available information that I can pass on to those members.

    • From Tony on Winna and Hardray Toys

      Hi Leigh

Yes it is a Winna model. It is Australian made and circa 1950. The models were originally bakelite and later diecast castings. Wheels were also of bakelite and then plastic. If it is diecast with plastic wheels then I’d suggest it is mid to late 1950’s. The Winna models had no baseplate and the axles / wheels were attached via cast axles holes in the sides of the main body.

      cheers

      Hi Paul

They look like nice, complete models, assuming I am looking at your listings. I think they are a bit pricey though.

  • From Ken Allison on Thomas Hore Toys

Hi Tony. I have a Thomas W Hore Luxury Sedan in excellent condition. It is green with red wheels. I can send photos if you wish. Do you have any idea of its value?
    regards
    ken

    • From Tony on Thomas Hore Toys

      Hi Ken

These items are not commonly found as they tend to either be in someones collection or in the trash. I would appreciate some photos, just for reference.

Value really depends on who is looking for one at the time. The only reference that is anywhere near recent is a sale in Leonard Joels rooms for 5 Micro Models and 1 Hore model which sold for $320 (estimated range of $200-$400). Given that the unboxed Micros are $40 to $60 in reasonable condition, there was not much on the Hore model, but a reasonable range would be $60 to $100. However, we do not know the condition of the models, or which models. Hope this helps.

      cheers

  • From JimC on Micro Models - Australia

    Hi Tony

I love your collection and thanks for all the photos and information which is invaluable for collectors. I have the GB/18 articulated comma, but I can’t tel if it is a repaint. There is paint on the rear rivets of the tray, which is the colour of the tray. Is this usual? Thanks

    2017/11/08 at 11:33 am
    • From Tony on Micro Models - Australia

      Hi Jim

I would need to see the model to be sure. Paint on the rivets is not really a guide as the ‘rivets’ are a part of the main casting when it is painted and the amount of paint remaining after the ‘rivet head’ is flared depends on how the paint and metal respond to the flaring. On some models all the paint is retained while on others most of it can be removed during the flaring operation.

      cheers

  • From Monty Brown on Yesteryears E-1 Box

Interesting, have a few of the same in my collection but they’re different colors.

    2017/11/12 at 12:40 pm
    • From Tony on Yesteryears E-1 Box

      Hi Monty

The Yesteryear range included many colour changes on the cars and livery changes on commercial models. Often they are mismatched in terms of which box / era model with the car. This tends to happen with collections that are displayed with the boxes stored separately and putting the right model back in the box can be a challenge.

      cheers

  • From Monty Brown on 1 - 75 D Series

That #32b was one of my favorite toys for quite some time. My heart races when looking at it!

    • From Tony on 1 - 75 D Series

      Hi Monty

Yes the Jaguars are a popular model. The E Type was issued with both black and grey tyres but the grey tyre version is difficult to find.

  • From JimC on Toy Talk

Hi, any advice on how to repair bent axles on Micro models? How are the axles held in the hubs and what do you do to remove them?

    Cheers
    Jim

    2017/12/02 at 11:58 am
    • From Tony on Toy Talk

      Hi Jim

The Micro Models were mostly a pressure fit and rotating the hub on the axle while applying outward pressure is the method I use, although it can be a challenge. The risk is in how to leverage pressure on the rear of the hub without causing damage to the casting while getting the first hub off. The second can be done in a vice. Good luck !

      cheers

  • From Amelie Morton on Australian Made Toys

    Hi Tony,

I just tried to write via email and could not send it. I shall try again here. My father was a tool and die maker
at L and I Glenn in the 40’s and 50’s. He was highly skilled and worked with the engineer. I would love to find a Humpty Dumpty which they made, do you have any thoughts about how I might find one…with thanks Amelie

      Hi Amelie

Humpty Dumpty sounds like an interesting piece. I do not have much information on the items they made, but I will keep looking.

      Cheers
      Tony
