Cyclops Toys is an Australian icon that was bought out by Line Bros. UK during the 1950’s and ultimately returned to Australian ownership via Hunter Leisure. My collection of Cyclops items is limited to a refurbished scooter that I keep simply because I had one as a kid. I think it was a standard for most Aussie kids to at least have ridden a Cyclops scooter, pedal car, or bike during their childhood.
However, something that I have enjoyed looking at for a number of years since I picked it up at a market stall, is a 1960’s sales brochure for the Lines Bros. and Cyclops products. I have had it mounted as a double-sided perspex mount and it hangs in our rumpus room along side my toy display.
This Cyclops Toys sales brochure is from the mid 1960's. It is a gate-fold A2 double-sided single sheet which folded down to an A4 size.
The front of the brochure has half the sheet 'upside down' to form front and page pages when folded. While the other side is a single large poster of products.
My brochure is mounted in a double-sided frame with perspex for display. This close-up shows the 'front page' of the folded brochure.
Featured are Tri-ang trains which helps me date this to the early 1960's, based on the ownership of Cyclops by the UK based Lines Bros . and the vintage of some of the featured models.
