  • From catherine mcdonald on Information Needed on Australian Made Toys

I have a pedigree doll [reg. Trade Mark] made in Australia by Moldex Ltd, Fairfield, Victoria. On the dilapidated box there are images of little girls walking down steps holding out their skirts. How old is the doll? What is she worth today?

      Hi Catherine

Thanks for getting in touch. A Pedigree doll with the Australian Moldex branding will have been made in the 1960’s (90% confident).

Lines Brothers who owned the Pedigree brand bought the Moldex plastics business in 1956. Lines Bros. went out of business in the early 1970’s so the most likely manufacturing date will be the 1960’s.

Without seeing the doll your price range is between $30 and $200 for similar dolls, obviously depending on condition.

I would really like to see the box as we may be able to create a reproduction from it.

      cheers

      Hi

Yes it has value, just not much given the condition. For a restorer of Micro Models it woud desirable if it is a 1950’s casting.

      I’ll contact you via email.

      Cheers

      Hi Ross

They sound like nice finds. Does the landrover have a hole for the driver position or blank? Would like to see a photo or two if you have time.

      Cheers

  • From Tim Long on Dinky Toys

How to put the tracks on ? Bulldozers tracks on dinky toy bulldozer has blind rivets holding blade to you ? Is there any replacement rivers ? Thanks for any information Tim Long.

    • From admin on Dinky Toys

      Hi Tim

They are a challenge. I’ll try to write something up with more detail next week, but basically the options for replacing the tracks on these types of models are as follows.

When replacing Dinky or Matchbox bulldozer tracks the pivot points for the bulldozer arms are a machine turned axle head or metal stud. Using. Dremel type tool or a hand held small needle file you can work the machined head to reduce its diameter without redcing the length – the goal s to all it to slip out while retaining enough metal to peen over are refitting.

A less tedious method is to cut the axles in the centre and fit a tube sleeve with glue when refitting.

Optionally you can cut the tracks and use an O-ring cement to seal them, but I have had little success with this method.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers
      Tony

      Hi David

The posts are hollow and you drill them out. Have a look at my Corgi 267 Batmobile restoration pages and images at RecoverToy.

  • From Dee Ishmael (O'Hare) on Cyclops Toys

Hi, I’m currently researching the origins of my Sindy doll, which was purchased in Australia around 1965 or 1966. I saw in an ad in the Australian Women’s Weekly (1966) that it was distributed through Cyclops Lines (Australia). She has made in Hong Kong on her back but some collectors in England claim she must have been assembled in New Zealand, then imported into Australia. Any chance this is true or did the Australian branch import direct from Hong Kong (which to me makes more sense)?

    • From Tony on Cyclops Toys

      Hi Dee

I have looked but not found anything specific to date. The assembly in New Zealand is quite possible as they had an embargo on finished goods. To encourage NZ manufacturing the government had banned finished goods and many factories were importing parts and assembling there to get around the embargo.

      cheers

      Hi Lindsay

One interesting article in Trove http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/18139469 about the Moldex Ltd company finance raising.

I cannot find a street address, only the suburb.

      cheers
