  • From Paul Trieu on Buses

I have an unrestored 283 BOAC coach and I wanted to know the prices before and fatter restoration with and without the box (original or replica).
Could you also let me know of it is using 15mm black treaded tyres on the original post 1950 models?

I have a few more old Dinkies and wanted to know how to sell them at a far price and would appreciate your knowledge.

Thank you for your information and early reply.

    • From Tony on Buses

      Hi Paul

Restoration tends to be a personal taste issue and may not actually add any value to the model. Original boxes are always preferred by collectors but given that they are less common than the models, reproduction boxes are nice for display or storage of models.

Valuations for sale or insurance purposes are two different values. For selling we need to look at the current market and mark down to the lowest estimate, i.e. a conservative price, whereas for insurance purposes we need to look at what the likelihood is of trying to find a replacement item and what that would cost if it were for sale.

Most of the Dinky range post war is readily available and without seeing your actual model it is somewhere from AU$10 to AU$100 depending on condition and probably around $50 as a restored model.

      Hope this helps.

      cheers
      Tony

    Hi Tony,

I have two Tinplate Toys in my collection.

1/ Greyhound bus single motorised push along, still works. On the left rear bumper
it has made in Japan and a diamond emblem side on what appears to be the
    letter y.

2/ A Double-decker bus by A Wells & Co Ltd, of Walthamstow, Eng.
Marketed as Wells Brimtoy Distributors. Appears to be “Brimtoy.”
The box states, True to Life, it Rings-Stops-Rings and Starts.

As soon as possible I will send you photos of these two.
Enjoy your site it is excellent and would like to add to some other sections.

    Regards
    Denniston Furey

  • From Bianca on Lincoln International

    Hey,

Just wondering what you would say the Neptune mini would be worth?

    2016/01/25 at 9:43 pm
    • From Tony on Lincoln International

      Hi Bianca

The Neptune mini gets quite a wide price range depending on condition. Anything from AU$40 to AU$350 at a broad estimate.

The box is difficult to find and the model is difficult in good condition as they all tended to break off little bits quite easily.

They were petrol station give-aways and often well-loved (read bashed around) as toys, which is what they were for !

      Hope this helps.

      cheers
      Tony

  • From S. Britcliffe on Micro Models - Australia

I have a green micro police Holden toy car, it says on the bottom , new look Holden . Good condition and was wondering what the price would be, only as a matter of interest.. I saw a blue one on this site and mine is the same but green….

    • From Tony on Micro Models - Australia

      Hi

It depends on when it was made. The more recent New Zealand models generally run around AU$40 to $100 depending on condition (and who is buying) and the original Melbourne made models should attract from $50 to $150. Condition is always the question. The NZ ones are generally boxed and mint due to their recent manufacture and sales predominantly to collectors. The earlier ‘toys’ from Micro in Melbourne were sold over the counter to kids who played with them and made use of their play value. The earlier models will generally have smaller O ring style tyres while the NZ ones will have the larger tyres with Micro embossed on the sidewall.

      Hope this helps.

      cheers

    • From Tony on A Pope Product Diecast Toy Guns

      Hi Raymond

Thanks for your interest. No I did not buy the Ned Kelly gun at the time but I am still chasing one.

From what I have seen and adding your note it appears that they did silver, black, and silver with black. I cannot imagine any other colour variants, but who knows what will turn up.

      cheers

    Hi Shane and Tony,

Oh what wonderful memories I have of the horse with the string and weight, I remember getting one out of a lucky bag when I was a younge girl.
Hours of fun with such a simple toy.

    Many thanks

      Hi Anne

Yep, that sums it up and as an older ‘kid’ I still get that simple pleasure from making them walk !

      Thanks for visiting.

  • From Rhys on Cyclops Toys

    Hi,

just wondering if there are any cyclops toys for sale?

    Thanks Rhys

    2016/02/26 at 11:38 am
    • From Tony on Cyclops Toys

      Hi Rhys

Sorry, nothing for sale. My only item is a really old scooter that is similar to one I had as a kid. It is in the shed awaiting some time for a bit of TLC and then I’ll include it here. I did have a Cyclops pedal car as a youngster but I think it is long gone.

      cheers
      Tony
