R&L Cereal Toys issued two different sets of Hollow Polystyrene Cereal Toy Motor Cars.
The vehicles are hollow moulded with fixed wheels in a single casting. The cars have tow loops on the rear and the towing trailers have a bar and pin for attachment.
The earliest release was the 1960 Vehicles & Road Signs series as a Kellogg Corn Flakes premium. Issued in only four colours of Blue, Green, Red, & Yellow.
The set included:
- Jeep
- Police Car
- Jaguar
- VW
- Sedan Car #1 – possibly Vanguard
- Sedan Car #2 – possibly Austin / Morris
- Caravan
- Boat on trailer
- Work Trailer
- 4 Diamond-shaped Road Signs in yellow with black highlights labelled as: Hill, School, Narrow Bridge, & No Parking.
However, Mike Black has 2 additional road signs in his collection namely, Stop, & Slow.
However, that list is possibly not complete. As Craig Hall states “Full Series Not Known”, so I have a number of items that might be part of this series as well.
The later issue was in 1978 for the Sanitarium Heath Foods business and issued in Australia in Skippy Cornflakes, Weeta Puffs, & Puffed Wheat, among others.
In the Cereal Toys Book, p186 states that there were 12 models issued in a broad range of colours. With the model name embossed in the under side of the hollow mould body.
Car models are listed as:
- Rolls Royce
- Jeep
- Toyota Corona 1900
- Lancia Fulva
- Estate Wagon
- Yamaha Rotary
- Jaguar
- Ford Continental
- VW Golf
- Mercedes
- Fiat Dino
- Chevrolet Corvette Rondine
