Australian Made Toys

This section is for Australian Made Toys. Micro Models are the best known of the die-cast cars but there were others, like Hardray and Winna.

There were also tin plate toys from Boomaroo & Wyn-Toy. Brentoy was another early die-cast maker closely related to the Micro Models makers, and Fimcar made some nice die-cast kits.

Weico Models and some other specialists also provide scale models of Australian vehicles that would never be made by the international manufacturers.

Of course, the most prolific of all the Australian Toy makers, at least in pure volume, was Rosenhain and Lippman, the makers of cereal toys based in Port Melbourne.

These pages and galleries cover everything that I have in my collection and information that I have tracked down on the manufacturers of Australian Made toys.

      Hi Dale

That is not a model I was aware of at all. Would be pleased to have a photo or two to include in my listings.

hi Tony, bought a small diecast fighter plane last weekend at the Canberra swap meet. It is about 55mm long and 87mm wingspan. The seller said it was made by an Australian firm under the guise of Victory Toys who issued these to raise funds for the war effort.
Under each wing is a symbol, large ‘V’ on top of small word “TOY”.
I’m sure I’ve seen something similar before, possibly in a museum. Have you come across anything like this or heard of V-TOYS?
I have pics i’d like to send but cannot upload them here.
    cheers, John

    Hi Tony,

I just tried to write via email and could not send it. I shall try again here. My father was a tool and die maker
at L and I Glenn in the 40’s and 50’s. He was highly skilled and worked with the engineer. I would love to find a Humpty Dumpty which they made, do you have any thoughts about how I might find one…with thanks Amelie

      Hi Amelie

Humpty Dumpty sounds like an interesting piece. I do not have much information on the items they made, but I will keep looking.

      Cheers
      Tony

    Hi Tony
I was going to look at your collection of diecast toys and maybe small tin motor car toys but i could not get the camera icon (i assumed that youclick on) to open.

I have about 30 Micro Austraalia toys but have just recently purchased a merrytoy silver Jeep and 2 Winna Toys (1 a car the other a red truck/lorry.

Is your site still available to view?

I have one of those Merrytoys Jeeps. Do you know how many different models they made? I also have a Condon diecast Muir Hill Dumper which was made in the UK. My collection is mainly Dinky but I also have almost all of the Micro model body shapes, I will never be able to collect all of the colours which were available. Best Regards Mal.

      Hi Mal

The Merry Toys jeep is the only car that they did as far as I know. They also had a helicopter (which I’d love to buy from some one!!)

Micro Models were done in many colours both in Australia and New Zealand in the later issues, and yes collecting all the original colours would be a challenge.

Thanks for looking at my collection and keep in touch.

      cheers
      Tony
