1963 Circus Cereal Toys

The R & L series, 1963 Circus Cereal Toys, can be easily confused with the 1969 Carnival series. The 1963 releases were issued with Kellogg while the 1969 Carnival series was with Nabisco (Weeties) and Nabisco promoted it as Circus Toys on the front of the Weeties boxes.

Kellogg referred to this series as Circus Capers on the boxes and the set of 6 snap together frames are:

  • High Wire Clown
  • Gymnast
  • Walking Elephant
  • Lion Cage
  • Rolling Clown
  • See Saw Monkey

The High Wire Clown used the snap frame as a part of the assembly and from the parts that I have I can see that many would have been inadvertently destroyed during snapping the parts from the frame.

Circus - 1963 This image shows all the Circus cereal toys that I have when setting up this gallery. Only a few.
Rolling Clown - Green This is the Rolling Clown character in a pale green green with white traces. My collection includes a number of mixed colour items.
Rolling Clown - Colour Comparison This time in Red and Red with white traces. It seems like they used white to separate colour runs. This series colours did not include white.

Clown - Yellow The yellow Rolling Clown also has a white trace in it.
Lion Cage - Green This Lion Cage includes the often broken tow hook and the lion inside.
Lion Cage - Green White This Lion Cage is missing the tow hook and the lion has escaped. But I keep it as another example of white traces in the colour mix.

Lion Cage - Red My red Lion Cage is also missing the lion and hook, but it has all four wheels!
See Saw Monkey - Close Up A close up of the Monkey that rides the see-saw
See Saw Monkey - Red A See-Saw Monkey set including the white traces that I have in most of this set.

See Saw Monkey - Yellow A yellow See-Saw Monkey that has a trace of red in it.
Walking Elephant A red Walking Elephant complete with weight and the original owners 1960's piece of string. I have a second red elephant without its weight to swap.
High Wire Clown - Red The high wire clown with the outer frame is rare. This one is complete including the cellophane packet.

High Wire Clown - Red The frame was frequently snapped during assembly and as a result it is an uncommon item in this condition.
Rolling Clowns - Yellow Contrasting the colours of the two yellow rolling clowns with one having white streaked into it during the colour change process.
Lion Cage - Light Blue Another lion cage and another example of the streaky colour changes.

See Saw Monkey - Green A solid green see saw monkey.
Walking Elephant - Green The walking elephant in green complete with counter weight.

As always Craig Halls’ book, Breakfast barons, Cereal critters and the Rosenhain & Lipmann Legacy, is my reference bible for cereal toys. This series is found on page 132
